What to Focus On In Marketing



This is a very common comment that I hear many times when people call me for consulting: “I am so lost! I have the website, I have great products but I have no clue how to get started! Where should I market first? Where should I advertise…?”

When moving over from the first step in launching a business to the second step [marketing] many times I see the same confusion. This confusion in most cases is a result of lack of planning before hand and focusing to much on the web design and many other unnecessary things.

Where to start with marketing? How to start with marketing?

We first need to remember that there are millions of other people on the web promoting products and services. We need to have that in mind. It’s not going to be enough to just copy and paste your link everywhere. People will need a good reason to click on it.

This is why I tell people that they first need to focus on two main things in marketing. I’ll say it even better – you need to have these two things in mind at all times when marketing:

1] Grabbing your readers’ attention

2] Getting them to act

This is what your focus should be on. Before you go joining every social network and before you sign up for every forum you need to keep these two principals in mind.

How are you going to grab your readers’ attention? What killer headline will you write? How will you get them to act? You need to think out this process strategically.
