The Word of Mouth Syndrome

So many people have brilliant ideas. New Start-ups are being launched all the time, around the clock. But the tragedy is that many of these new businesses never make it.

Why is that?

I have been studying the source of this problem for some time now. Some will say it’s because of lack of planning. Others will say that the concept past its time. The great business thinkers will tell you it’s because of the entrepreneurs’ mindset. When your head is in the wrong place – your business won’t get too far.

All of these things are true yet there is still another aspect here that many people leave out and that is: The Word of Mouth Syndrome. This is a syndrome that so many entrepreneurs suffer from. It’s when people say things like: “Well, my idea is so powerful that it will be the hottest topic for conversation….” – Or - “We are just going to kick off our marketing campaign, we’ll get the ball rolling and “word of mouth” will take it from there…” or the worst ….” It will be very interesting to see how this thing will spread”

It is true that ‘word of mouth’ is the most powerful marketing tool and every so often an unknown company manages to break ‘the code’ and release a product or service that reaches markets all over the world – all based on word of mouth. But the reality is that this hardly ever happens.

Marketing needs to be done on a daily basis over a consisted period of time. In today’s world you need to be aggressive as well.

Focus on three main areas when you are launching your business:

1] Market

2] Market

3] Market!!

Don’t get caught up in the word of mouth syndrome or the only one who will be talking about your business will be you.
