Should You Study Web Design?

I am often asked this question.

Coming from the marketing side I usually "get along" with the web designers that have a very good know-how of SEO. Because these web designers will simply create a website thats good for marketing and not a website thats good for themselves. Over and over again I tell clients that we will have to re-do their website.

My new policy is that I will not work or hire web designers that have no understanding of SEO.

So many web designers will create flash packed sites that may look really cool - but will end up going no where. Clients are usually misled to think that flashy websites will attract lots of customers...

So should you study web design?

You should:

1) Study the art of creating an optimized website

2) Learn how to use Wordpress or Drupal platforms

3) Build a website where the client has complete access to the backend

4) Stay away from flash courses

5) When you get a project - study the competition websites and what they are doing right.
