The Difference Between Sharing Information & Giving Advice - Getting Clients Tip
How many times have you found yourself in this situation: A potential client is "interested" in hiring you. However before they actually hire you they are trying to to get as much information as possible. One the one hand you don't want to say 'no' to this potential client and on the other hand you feel like that you are giving to much free information - and thats worth money. Sometimes sharing to much information with a potential client is not good. This is extremely relevant to those of us in the marketing business because so many people out there think they can do it on their own...therefore if they just milk enough information out of you then they 'can do it on their own'..... This is why it is critical to know the difference between sharing information and giving advice. Be very careful about sharing information. Because once you start sharing relevant information with a potential client - you are raising your chances for losing that client. Example of giving advice: This where you tell the client ahead of time that you will be sharing three recommended tips for their business. For example: If you are offering internet marketing services you can say something like: "We recommend SEO ..." and then you can explain what SEO is - and not how you are going to do it. When you give to much information - you and the client get caught up in details and then the client starts getting confused and that is not good. If a client asks you how you will be cleaning the floor... just respond by telling your potential client about the specific broom that you'll be using. Because at the end of the day the client doesn't care what broom you're using as long as the floor is clean!
