The One Good Reason Why Businesses Should Have a Facebook Fan Page
I know there is a lot to talk about when it comes to Facebook fan pages. But if you're deep deep inside the marketing scene you know that Facebook fan pages are a temporary excitement for a business and it doesn't really convert like many Facebook gurus will tell you. So why have a Facebook fan page? Facebook fan pages are effective for one thing: If you have lots of fans - you can then take the badge from your Facebook fan page and put it on your website. thats it. This way when someone comes to your website and they see your little Facebook fan page badge - and if you have let's say 100 fans - they will know that you are a real person with a real business and that people know of you. The buzz word today is "social proof". When people come to your website they want to know that others have heard of you before. It looks really good when people see your badge and that "100 people Like...." your business. Here is the reality with Facebook fan pages: 1- Most people don't visit them again once they've clicked the 'like' button. 2- The updates from the Fan pages don't always show up in the fans home feed. 3- Facebook fan pages (if not moderated) get tons of spam. 4- Fan pages are only effective if you were already super famous or your business was very well known before - like Wal-Mart. So there you have it: -Build your Fan page -Add content -Build up a fan base -Take the badge from your fan page and put it on your website - homepage. = Socially proof your business. and now for my dirty little secret: How To Get More Fans To Your Facebook Fan Page BTW - This same idea applies to Twitter as well. Twitter is not effective for marketing - but it looks good if you have a little Twitter badge on your website that says: "Joe Shmo has 300 followers on twitter" - The average visitor thinks "wow this guy has 300 people who like him...."
