How To Build Your Reputation and Personal Brand Online

Everyday new websites are promising to help you build your reputation online and help you brand yourself.

I have signed up to many of these sites and I have not found them to effective.

So whats the best way to build your reputation and brand yourself online?

The answer to this question is very simple: Be everywhere on the web and share your information where ever its relevant, needed and allowed. Always use your name and your companies name where ever you go.

If you focus on marketing your information then you will build for yourself a reputation as an authoritative figure in your field. Brand yourself as the guy with the right solutions to your markets questions and problems.

If you are not "big" yet, then at least pretend that you are! "fake it till you make it". A site with no traffic needs to act like it has tons of traffic or else you will never get anywhere.

Tip: It always helps if some authoritative figure gives you an endorsement. This could really help speed the reputation and branding process. The question is: How can you convince an authoritative figure to give you an endorsement if he has no clue who you are?

Here is what I do: If I find someone online that I would like for him to give me some kind of an endorsement, I will first research this person to find what social media sites he is using. Then I will check how he is using these sites; Does he interact with other people? Does he post articles? What topics interest him? I will add him as a friend with a personal message like: "I really enjoy your site and the information that you share..." Once I am in his network I simply act natural and share my information with 'my network'.

If he posts an article - I will RT or give him thumbs up. The endorsement that I am looking for doesn't have to be a speech on CNN (although that would be nice) - it is the little things that happen within my network and his. If he recommend an article that I just wrote or if he RTs something of mine - this is just one valuable tip to help you build your reputation and brand online.
