Are Business Networking Events Really That Effective?



Today I had the privilege listening to Business Guru Adam Urbanski on a free tele-class. Adam shared some very interesting points about entrepreneurship in this tele-class and one point that I would like to talk about is the topic of networking events.

For many of us who are looking for ways to grow our businesses, we spend lots of time going to networking events hoping to connect with other small business owners and via this method maybe we will establish some new business relationships which will hopefully translate into money. Yet Adam asked the question? How many times do people actually close deals and establish business relationships because of a networking event? The reality is that each person is coming with his own ego and self interest to these events. Adam added later on that usually the one who benefits the most from these events – is the guest speaker.

What should one do if networking is not that effective? Adam recommends that you utilize the time of the event to sit at home and write information articles. Write articles? Yes, because when you write an article and submit to a popular article directory – your article will be there for years and with it comes traffic to your website and business. Utilize this time to build up your reputation. Business networking is not the right platform for building up your reputation. Your time should be focused on planting the seeds for the future. So many people get caught up in business networking that they end up losing so much precious time.

More then that – spend your time on creating and developing your information products. The beauty of an information product is that you can make money with it even when you are not working. Creating passive income is the ideal way to live so why not focus your efforts on actions that will take you there?
